We've visited La Grotta before and the food was decent, so decided to bring my mom for Mother's Day dinner. I made a reservation and was told there would be only 3 seatings to accommodate for the increased traffic. I asked if there would be a special menu for Mother's Day, and was told that they would eliminate some items on the menu. I assumed that meant the cheaper items will be eliminated and left with more pricier items. I'm fine with that, if the food is good. Well, our reservation was at 7pm, and the restaurant wasn't even half full. Only two tables were left when we left 1.5 hrs later. We started off with the calamari, which was not bad. Then the veal marsalas came, and the sauce was not even lukewarm, and salty. The rack of lamb was ordered as medium rare, but it looked more like medium; not to mention it was also lukewarm. The seafood risotto was too watery, probably from the not properly drained mussels. The server asked about our food, and we told her that it's not warm enough. She asked if we want to reheat the veal and rack of lamb. However, considering the veal was already not tender and the lamb overcooked, we decided to just leave it. Any more heating would just cook the meat even more. We're absolutely disappointed. The restaurant was not at all busy, yet the quality was so poor. I can understand lukewarm food on a busy night, but a half empty restaurant?? It did not deserve the higher prices at all. Needless to say, we would never go back.
I had never been to La Grotta before, I had orginally made reservations somewhere else for a party of 10 for a Birthday party. When the other place called to cancel, I decided to check out La Grotta. When we arrived, the setting was very warm and cozy, we had one of the doors open to the patio which was nice because it was a nice night. The Atomsphere was beautiful, there was a fire place, our table was set really nice and we had a bar behind us. The staff was very professional, they came by often to see how we were doing and always made sure our cups were full. The food was great, we had a set menu for $35. I felt that we got a lot of food for that price! I really enjoyed the food and the entire party had only great things to say about the place and food. I will be back in the near future!
Recently visited again with my 2 daughters, and had a very enjoyable lunch. Although it was winter, it was COLD inside! Service and menu selections were great!
Food was delicious and not pricey like the other restaurants on main street unionville.We sat on the beautiful and peaceful patio.We were not rushed and we felt right at home.The waiter who served us was spontaneous and professional.We will reccomend La Grotta to friends and family.I'm thinking of booking my bridal shower there.
Spectacular food.You can tell that everything is made from scratch and very flavourful.Service was friendly and professional.Their patio is very beautiful.We will be back very soon.
