Garden centres aren’t just for people with green thumbs. These greenhouses have plenty of appeal for everyone. Come for a meal, shopping or to learn something new!
Salisbury Greenhouse is a family-owned business, opened by Helen and Fred Sproule in 1975. Their son, Bob, eventually took over, and he and his three sons now run it. Salisbury Greenhouse is open year-round, has a large gift-shop and sells indoor and outdoor plants and gardening supplies. They have workshops and a DIY section on their website with photos and free instructions for making seed bombs, succulent window frames and more. Workshops are also free, although supplies are not included.
Holes Greenhouse is located inside the Enjoy Centre in St. Albert and is a great place to go for gifts, floral arrangements or brunch in the Glasshouse Bistro. This greenhouse has it all: home décor, pet accessories and a fairy garden, in addition to indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs and gardening tools. Holes Greenhouse has a plant diagnosis service, so bring in your unhealthy plants for testing, diagnosis and treatment.
Owned by Dot and Terry Zeigler, Hastings Lake Gardens is open for retail business in May and June. The rest of the year, the couple landscapes their immaculate gardens, which are a popular wedding venue. Hastings Lake Gardens offers an indoor and an outdoor gazebo wedding package, which include seating, tents, potted flowers and hanging baskets, wedding rehearsal and coordinating, a sound system, parking and an amazing garden setting.
This greenhouse is well known for its selection and quality of plants and hanging baskets. Owner Harold Wanke developed his own potting soil blend, which is sold in the greenhouse. South Cooking Lake Greenhouse is open seasonally from May to July.
Kuhlmann’s Greenhouse Garden Market is open year round and sells annuals, perennials, seeds, shrubs and gardening tools. Inside the greenhouse, you can purchase cold drinks and snacks, and visit the floral arrangement shop. Kuhlmann’s Greenhouse Garden Market is a vendor at the Capilano, downtown and St. Albert farmers’ markets, where you can pick up a jar of Mrs. Kuhlmann’s famous sauerkraut.
Located in Sherwood Park, Greenland Garden Centre has won a Canadian Retailer of the Year award for excellent customer service. The garden centre offers garden supplies, plants, home décor, clothing and fashion, landscaped gardens and Branches Fresh Food Experience.
