The Village Bake Shop & Deli, a Dutch-themed bakeshop and delicatessen, has been a part of the Whitby community since 2009. But, the first location was actually opened up in Orono, Ontario, in 1979. Over the years, The Village Bake Shop & Deli has proudly honoured its commitment to using only the finest ingredients and providing a freshness factor that is difficult to match.
“Our family has been in the baking business for a very long time,” says part-owner Corey Vreeker. “My grandfather started in Holland, and then in Orono; his passion was passed over to us. It’s a family-run business and my parents, Gary and Carol Vreeker, took over from my grandparents.”
The Village Bake Shop & Deli is Whitby's source for delicious Dutch baked goods, including the bakery's pride and joy: their famous apple fritters. You can also expect to find imported cheeses, fresh meat and many other delectable goods to satisfy your culinary cravings here. “The most important part of the day for us is making sure our customers are satisfied,” says Corey.
I was going to shop at Giant Tiger and discovered the Village Bakery this summer because they are in the same mall. Everything is great at the bakery but my favorite is the jelly donuts. You cannot get them anywhere else so I was pleased to find them. The long johns are fab as well. I always feel like a little kid in the candy store when I shop there.
We have been coming to this bakery for a couple of years now. Great pastries, love the meat counter and above all the serving staff are always in good spirits with the customers. If you have not been here you are missing out.
