Shanghai House Chinese Restaurant

Family owned and serving the community since 1993....the only place that can display on their menu; NO-MSG. I always drive there for the pick-up special prices. Every time I telephone & I call out the number on the menu, the son knows what meal goes with the number !! Only disappointment is that they have later week-end times for operating hours. Cannot say enough about this place, I love it !!

Best Chinese in Mississauga

I don't even know where to start. We discovered Shanghai House about 4 years ago which is a shame because I have lived beside it for 30 years. The first time we went we were completely amazed at how delicious everything was. And thats where the obsession started! Unfortunately we are only in Canada for 6 months of the year. During those 6 months we order from Shanghai at least once a week. And the other 6 months out of the country, we say "i wish we had Shanghai" at least once a week! I love getting their delivery as the prices are completely fair if not underpriced for the quality and quantity that they provide. We always order the Hot Braised Chicken which is incredible, and one additional plate plus a rice dish. The Braised Chicken doesnt last long as we eat it all up. But whatever remains of the second dish is always a delicious lunch for the next day. This year we have decided to try every dish they have on the menu. We'll see if we can make it through the whole list, because the options are amazing. I'm looking forward to trying to Crab Rangoon this week. My personal favourite is the Tofu in Szechuan Garlic Sauce. If you dont like tofu they have chicken or beef or shrimp in the same sauce. It's just the right amount of spicey. I've read some of the reviews of the restaurant and I dont understand what people expect from the actual location. It's pretty clear that this place is for take out or delivery but they provide space should you want to sit in to eat. and at an average of $12/person for full meals with appetizers, do you expect fireplaces and chandeliers? I personally love the place. I've never found it dirty and the family that runs it is incredibly friendly which makes it comfortable and enjoyable the times we do go to eat. Shanghai House has become a family favourite and we talk about it everywhere we go. I recommend it to anyone in Mississauga. Call for delivery or take-out, or give the restaurant a chance when you're in the area and looking for a quick lunch or dinner and a nice chat with friendly staff.

this is what an egg roll should taste like

I like how the menu is posted on the outside window, so you can see what they have before you go in. The white sheer drapes and "real" white tablecloths on each table, add class. For a small area, the decor is nice and each table is far away from the other so one does not bang elbows & is private. I usually judge a Chinese Restaurant by the price of their egg rolls. They have good priced egg rolls & this is what an egg roll should taste like. I go to many Chinese Restaurants to pick-up and am rushed out without even a smile. Some Chinese take-out places, male/female order takers, do not even look up at the customer. Perhaps this is a custom but you certainly do not notice that here--the 02 guys who take the orders are ever so polite & patient. I like the fact that the meal is not prepared until I order it--not just sitting under a hot lamp. I have never seen so much BBQ pork for only $ 6.45. I have yet to take the food home & find a missing egg roll or wrong order from this place--always correct. If it were not for the other poor customer service places, one would not appreciate this hidden gem in a small plaza.

Horrifically dirty

This is one of the most dirtiest kept restaurant I have ever been to. Should have walked right back out at the initial sight of it but thought I would give it a try based on previous reviews. out of the 6 tables in there, 3 were left there uncleared for the entire duration of our visit. The worst part though was the filth on the floor around/under the tables. I can gaurantee that there must must be rat thereas a result. also serious mold was in the dining area and downstairs in the washroom area. also noticed that most people took take out orders. The food if I was to be honest with myself was sorrily less than average and as a result was disappointed. The staff are quite nice and appear to be hard working however their own cleanliness along with the restaurant needs a clean-up overhaul

Really Good Take-out

I wanted to find some good Chinese take-out for my family and came across this place. After reading the reviews here I decided to give it a shot. When getting there this place looks bad on the outside, and worse on the inside.. the floor looks cheap and dirty and its fairly small with little decoration. But we were taking the food home so it doesn't matter. The food itself was surprisingly good. The braised chicken was really good, and their sweet and sour pork was the best I've ever had honestly. Their house special shanghai noodles are pretty good too. I also got the stuffed eggplant which is something i usually wouldn't go for but I heard it was good - and it was actually my favourite. The rice was decent and the diced vegetables were okay. The price is among the cheapest I've seen for Chinese food. Overall it was the best Chinese food I've had in a long time (which is saying a lot since I'm from Vancouver) and I'll only be coming back to this place.

I decided to try the braised chicken which many of my friends suggested and it was delicious. Though I do wish the interior of the restaurant was nicer. It seems to be very stuffy and a little grimey. Like in a previous review, delivery or take-out would be the best option. The service is also among the friendliest I had ever received!

We found Shanghai House via Restrauntica and we were not misled. The exterior facade, interior decor, and generic folded paper take-out style menus might make you think you'd been fooled. But a quick read through the menu offers up passionately described selection of dishes that goes beyond the standard offerings. Don't worry, you'll probably find all your old favorites too. But for the best experience be sure to be adventurous and try something a little different. The service was friendly and prompt. I didn't have to ask for a refill once. But they didn't hover uncomfortably either. I would say the service was perfect. The food was fantastic! We were told the potstickers would take time to prepare and agreed we'd be happy to wait. We were not disappointed. These were obviously freshly made and had a nice delicate delictable flavour. The crispy honey ginger beef offered up a nice sweet flavour with a hint of ginger. The 5-spice fried chicken was crispy succulent. The chicken was served with veggies, (bean sprouts mostly) but not many. My only complaint with the meal was there could have been a few more veggies with the chicken & veggies dish. My friend and I were quite happy and both said we'd return. The bill came to $26 for 2.

Recommend takeout or delivery.... back of chair was greecy, grime on the floors, washrooms are gross. Wish I brought the hand sanitizer. crab rangoon 9/10, five spice sesame chicken 4/10, szechuan chicken 6/10 , cantonese chow mein 8/10, hot braised chicken 10/10. Generally, the chicken tastes boiled instead of fried like a lot of chinese restaurants with exception to the braised chicken. The price was exceptional, we ordered a lot of food, lot of leftovers, under 40 dollars.

Awesome food, quick service, really friendly and nice people

I love this place. I go there for the chicken fried rice and the most amazing dish, Schezuan eggplant, u gotta try this, u wont be dissapointed!!!!! I could eat this for breakfast lunch and dinner. Its a little spicy, but tastes amazing , how do u guys do it!!!

Good but not up to hype

Went there for take out based on this site's reviews. Drove from SouthWest Missisauga, was it worth the drive..No. Break Down Braised Chicken - Good and tasty BBQ Ribs - threw mine away, Tofu with Veg - adequate Noodles with Veg - adequate There is no "wow" factor in this one, I might eat there again for the braised chicken if I am in the area. I have a personal belief about Chinese restaurants, only eat at ones packed with Chinese people, this doesn't live up to it.

Outstanding the best take out this year. Generous portions not skimpy on the meat. Every dish had its own unique flavor (most Oriental places the dishes seem to have a constant type of flavor with no individual dish taste) . This place was unique as every dish was distinct. Decor needs a serious upgrade though. However its all about the food, taste and flavor.

You CANNOT go wrong with the braised chicken. I have been here numerous times, and the braised chicken is consistently excellent. The service is quick and friendly, and the restaurant itself has a serene atmosphere. I recommended it to all of my friends, and you should do the same.
