Tao Events doesn't just have one food truck but three. Boasting two 24-foot barbecues and a 24-foot food truck that can serve events in any kind of weather, the business got its start when owner Perry McGeough was doing marketing for the Calgary Vipers minor league baseball team. He partnered with a homebuilder to build a barbecue for special events at games.
In 2009, the homebuilder sold the barbecue to Perry and he went out on his own. “He had no food background,” says Perry's brother Ron. “It was basically hamburgers and hot dogs back then.” From that one barbecue – called the Patty Wagon – Perry has forged a mobile catering empire with the addition of the Chow Wagon, a 12-foot high stainless steel covered kitchen on wheels, and The Happy Truck, a converted mobile home.
