Downtown hair salons have a reputation for being high quality and on trend, but businesswoman Azriel White noticed that the same style wasn't being offered in the suburbs, where more people actually live. So she opened Lazriel Salon in 2012. “I realized there weren’t a lot of places available away from downtown," she says. "So what we’ve done is taken a downtown style and recreated it in the suburbs.”

Azriel's background is in accounting and financial training, but she chose to open a salon because she always enjoyed the beauty industry. Her entrepreneurial spirit gives her a fresh perspective on the business. “When I was looking for a business to start I took the business side of things and applied it to the beauty world, so I kind of have the best of both worlds,” says Azriel. “It works because I bring the client’s perspective.”
